Types of Auto Insurance Coverage
Liability Coverage - When you cause injury to damage to another person or property, and you are deemed responsible, you become liable for the injury and damage you caused. Harm to others is called Bodily Injury and damage to property is called Property Damage. The liability portion of your car insurance covers you for any monetary loss you might suffer do to an accident you caused with your insured vehicle. Limits on the amount of Bodily Injury and Property Damage covered can be shown as separate amounts (split limit), or they can be combined into a single amount (Combined single limit). It is important to have as high a liability coverage as you can afford.
Collision Coverage - Collision coverage covers damage done to your vehicle in a collision with another vehicle or object.
Comprehensive Coverage - Comprehensive coverage covers damage to your vehicle in situations that do not involve a collision, such as hail damage, damage to your windshield from rocks or debris thrown from the road, and windows broken during a theft.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage - Consider getting this coverage even if your state requires insurance to get a drivers license. Some drivers may get cheap coverage in order to qualify for their license, then let the coverage lapse and hope they don't get caught or have an accident.
